Rules and Regulations

I am medically fit to compete and fully understand that I enter at my own risk, and the organizers and their sponsors will be held responsible for any loss or injury during or as result of the event. I agree to comply with the rules of the IAAF, Athletics South Africa, and Kwa-Zulu Natal Athletics for my participation in this event.

ASA RULE ii.a: The race will be run in accordance with the rules of IAAF, ASA, and KZNA – and all participants to abide by these rules.

ASA RULE 9: All foreign athletes must comply with IAAF rules 4.2, 22.1 and 142 together with ASA rule 9.

ASA RULE 19: Marshalls, traffic officails, referees and technical officials must be obeyed.

Race Rules Information:
The event is over 21 km out-and-back course on the D96 route form Huttenpark Primary School out towards the Vulintaba Hotel and back.

Time of Event:
Runners: 42.2 km – 06h00 (5h00 hrs cut-off)
Runners: 21.1 km – 06h00 (3h30 hrs cut-off)
Runners: 10 km – 06h00 (3h30 hrs cut-off)

The race will be timed and is a comrade 4h50 and Tow-Oceans (5hrs) qualifier.

Start and Finish Venue:
The event will start and finish at Huttenpark Primary School netball court – 4 Rietbok, Ave Hutten Heights, Newcastle.

Online entries:
Pre-entries can be done by online on www.newcastleharriers.co.za from Thursday 2 January 2020 to Saturday 15 February 2020.

Late Entries not accepted on race day.

Race number collection takes place on Fryday the 28th of February 2020 from 17h00 to 20h00 at Huttenpark Primary School, and from 5h00 to 5h45 on race day.

Tog bag facility:
Will be provided at Huttenpark Primary School on race day but at the owner’s risk. A bag will be provided when handing in your bag. Bags will be released once the owner can produce the tag. Bags and goods lying around on the ground on race day will not be under supervision.

Prize giving:
Prize giving will take place @ 11h00 for all race distances. Proof of age may be required.

ASA rule 25.5:
Temporarily licensed athletics are not covered by a national insurance
Policy. Refer to ASA rule 25.5.15 of Domestic Rule and regulations.
Temporary licenses must be worn for age on the front of your vest/crop top.

ASA rule 2.12 :
Proof of age will be required for age category winners.

ASA rule 22.10:
Minimum age on race day. (33-42.2 km and longer)
Participants must be 20 years or older on race day. (22-32 km)
Participants must be 19 years or older on race day. (16-21 km)
Participants must be 16 years or older on race day. (10 km)
Participants must be 14 years or older on race day.

Temporary licenses for age event up to and including the Standard Marathon (42.2 km)

Dress Rules

ASA rule 25.4.8:
Current license numbers must be worn on the front and back of the vest.

ASA rule 22.1:
Junior athletes 19 years or younger on 31 December of the year of the event must wear a “J" on the upper front and back of vest in order to Be eligible for prizes and must provide proof of age on race day.

ASA rule 26: 
Organizers/Athletes may NOT replace ASA license number with Competition / Race Numbers / Stickers under any circumstances. When a Competition / Race Number is used it must be placed so that the ASA license sponsor and ASA province / year remains visible above the Competition / Race number. The license numbers may be covered. Athletes who fail to adhere to this rule may be disqualified. (refer to Rule 26.1.7 of 2017 Domestic Rules and Regulations)

ASA rule 22 & 33:
New ASA / KZNA approved age category tags (60 mm to 80 mm) & Walker tags “W" to be worn on front and back of the vest and must be clearly visible to be eligible for a prize.

ASA rule 25.5:
Unregistered athletes running in Temporary Licenses must run in Neutral colours and adhere to IAAF and ASA rules.

ASA rule 25.5.13:
Holders of temporary licenses will be eligible for individual prizes and may claim age category prizes in keeping with IAAF and ASA rules.
